  • 2. Speaker Bio - Wes Selke, Good Capital

    Wes leads investment management for the Social Enterprise Expansion Fund, which includes deal sourcing, due diligence, and transaction execution. He is also actively engaged with portfolio companies and is a Board Observer for Better World Books and Adina for Life. Wes has eight years of investment management and transaction experience in the financial services industry and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Prior to Good Capital, he spent two years as an Equity Research Associate at William Blair & Company where he authored proprietary research on public equities in the Advertising, Digital Media, and Marketing industries and provided assistance on public capital markets transactions. Before William Blair, Wes spent four years with Ernst & Young Corporate Finance where he advised privately held middle-market companies on mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring transactions. Wes earned an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley and a BBA from the University of Michigan with an emphasis in Finance and Accounting. Wes is passionate about international development and has worked with a variety of organizations that are seeking to alleviate poverty in the developing world including Foundation for His Ministry, which operates three orphanages in Mexico, and the Wildlife Conservation Society in Zambia. He is also a Board Advisor for NamasteDirect, a non-profit organization that supports microfinance in Central America.

  • 3. Competition Details

    Dates

    The proposals for the Intel ® Challenge in Latin America, may be submitted via the Web until June 1, 2010. During the following months to October were developed various stages in each of the countries. Winners will be announced at the end of October 2010.

    Requirements

    * Projects should be linked to the university environment. This may include graduate students or in the process of graduation. Graduate students, academics and alumni can also participate as part of a team. At least one participant must be a student or have left the university in a period not exceeding two years.
    * Projects should be oriented to technological innovation in any area: business, home, entertainment, health, energy, environment, etc.
    * Technological developments must be in working prototype stage.
    * Projects must have a business plan written in English.

    Prizes

    There are a total of three prizes to the winners of regional competition:

    First Prize: $ 15,000 USD*
    Second Prize: $ 7,000 USD*
    Third Prize: $ 3,000 USD*

    * The amount of the awards is pre-tax

    Additionally, three prizes include a trip for two to the United States to participate in the "Intel + UC Berkeley Technology Entrepreneurship Challenge (IBTEC) in the month of November 2010. IBTEC is global competition for business plans at the confluence of technology in some of the best projects and entrepreneurs in the world.
