  • 1. CUTEC workshop on Open Innovation successfully completed!

The first CUTEC event of this academic year was successfully completed on 12th November at the Judge Business School.

A panel of 5 distinguished speakers coming from different backgrounds has discussed in detail on the topic of open innovation, sharing with the audience their views on the interaction between a start-up and larger companies.
The event, sold out days in advance, has seen the attendance of well beyond 100 people (being the seating capacity of the lecture theatre), comprising a mixed audience of students, researchers, and professionals. The panel discussion was followed by an enjoyable networking session over food and drinks at the Browns Bar & Brasserie.

  • 2. Cambridge Launches Advanced Diploma in Entrepreneurship

To inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs –

The University of Cambridge is offering an exciting new opportunity to aspiring entrepreneurs to gain a recognised qualification in Entrepreneurship. The Advanced Diploma in Entrepreneurship, jointly created by Professional Studies at the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE)* and the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (CfEL) based at Judge Business School, will start in September 2009.

It provides entrepreneurial individuals the chance to achieve the high quality and specific learning required for a University of Cambridge programme at the same time as being actively supported in the pursuit of a business venture whether this is a technology, creative or social enterprise.

The Advanced Diploma harnesses all the resources, knowledge and networks built up over ten years of producing increasingly successful programmes in entrepreneurship and helping fledgling entrepreneurs develop their wings. Students will benefit from practical learning via experienced entrepreneurs that underpins CfEL’s teaching philosophy.

The Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, Dr Shai Vyakarnam, said: “We are very proud of our track record at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning. This is the right time to offer students this programme because we have refined our learning methods, developed exceptional course materials and established an enviable reputation in the field of entrepreneurship education. Plus there is a real market need for a Diploma based on sound materials.”

The Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) also brings extensive expertise in delivering programmes designed to assist career development. Sharon Collins, Director of Professional Studies at ICE, said: “Professional Studies offers the experience of developing and delivering courses for professionals using a blend of face-to-face teaching and e-learning which complements the entrepreneurial training developed by CfEL. We are confident this programme can facilitate individuals on their entrepreneurial journey while also providing a credible qualification.”

The programme is equally applicable to postgraduate students and to those currently in the workforce. It will be of interest to those responsible for developing transferable skills, and to employers looking to build skills and create an enterprising culture within an established organisation.

Applications are being taken now and prospective students are encouraged to sign up soon to secure one of the limited places on the first course. If you need further information, please contact Professional Studies on 01223 760860 or email profstudies@cont-ed.cam.ac.uk
