    - people with brilliant ideas you could partner with

What: Meet students and entrepreneurs from Cambridge, London, and Paris!
    When: 7th March 2009, 4pm for a 4:30pm start

  • 3. Investors' Forum: Let us show you the money! (11th February)

One more fantastic event entered into the records of CUTEC, as this has been our first collaboration with the Cambridge University Entrepreneurs (CUE) club.

The commitment of our club members in tuning all details to perfection has been evident in the results that speak of themselves: a full room of 250 people in an event that was sold out more than one 1 week ago, characterized by a truly rich content and first-rate organization that returned the most positive feedback from attendees. Visit the official website at www.theinvestorsforum.org and for a full report visit http://www.cutec.org/?n1=workshops.

Alex van Someren, moderating the panel, opened the forum by asking, “How has investing changed in the new economic environment?” A diverse panel of early-stage investors addressed this and a range of other questions pertaining to venture capital. The panel unanimously had a positive tone for start-up companies in today’s market, but as Kerry Baldwin (IQ Capital) poetically put it - investors are looking for companies that are leaner and meaner with their money.

The panel spoke to a full room of over 250 attendees who travelled from as far away as Copenhagen, with 23 MBA students from the Copenhagen Business School participating in this event, which sold out more than a week in advance. Following the forum, attendees and panelists enjoyed a food and drink networking session.

  • 7. MIT $100K GSW in Cape Town (25-27th March 2009)

The MIT $100K business plan contest is one of the most prestigious entrepreneurship competitions in the world. Now in its 19th year, the Competition has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and engendered over 85 companies with an aggregate value of over $10.5 billion (www.mit100k.org).

To support the work of the business plan competition in encouraging entrepreneurship, there is an annual 3-day conference: the MIT Global Startup Workshop (GSW). This year, the GSW will take place in Cape Town, South Africa on 25-27th March. It is an opportunity to meet with students, entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers and top business leaders from all over the world and discuss the global issues facing the next generation of enterprises. For further details, please visit the website at http://gsw.mit100k.org

If you are interested in attending the conference, send me an email at vidushi.tekriwal@cue.org.uk and if there is sufficient demand, I will organise a group delegation from Cambridge. There is also the possibility of arriving a few days early to see the sights around Cape Town before the conference begins.

Whether you want to meet some inspiring people, develop innovative ideas or simply see some sunshine again, this should be a very rewarding trip!
