4. HOW DID THE UNITED STATES BECOME SO ENTREPRENEURIAL?
Read the article "How Did the United States Become So Entrepreneurial?" to learn about the history of the free enterprise system and discuss what we need to do to keep it alive.
QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION....
Suggest that students explore more details on the Jamestown colony, the differences between the 13 colonies, the meaning of "Natural Law", difference between a republic and a democracy, and contents of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Then use the following questions for discussion.
** What is the difference between mercantilism and a free market economy?
** What actions led the Colonies to declare war on Britain?
** What could a central government be able to do if Adam Smith's principles had not been the foundation of the American Constitution?
** What are the implications of Adam Smith's ideas on your career opportunities?
** How does this discussion apply to political and economic issues of today?
