1. Global News...."EDUCATING THE NEXT WAVE OF ENTREPRENEURS"
AT LAST .....a worldwide recognition of the importance of entrepreneurship education as a lifelong learning process!
We want to be among the first to let you know about a significant report released today, April 23, by the World Economic Forum entitled "Educating the Next Wave of Entrepreneurs". This Report is the product of their Global Entrepreneurship Initiative focusing on the role of entrepreneurship education for Youth, Higher Education, and social inclusion of marginalized communities. www.weforum.org
We are delighted to read in the 184 page document that entrepreneurship education should be a lifelong learning process for EVERYONE. To help you absorb and use this powerful initiative to support your program needs we suggest you check out the following:
* A 3-minute video introduction from Alex Wong, Senior Director and Head of the Global Education Initiative, World Economic Forum - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_jgCpLF0LA
Note their strict copyright rules and be sure to reference their copy location in the downloadable PDF of the Report rather than quoting from the Report without permission. For example we suggest you would be specially interested in the following:
1. The authors agree with our philosophy that entrepreneurial skills, attitudes, and behaviors can be LEARNED starting in elementary school throughout all education levels...(see the Preface, page 6)
2. ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION FOR YOUTH (Section - Pages 26 - 44) In this section they mention the Consortium and use many of our members as examples....see especially page 34. They suggest that the only difference in K-12 entrepreneurship programs versus adults is how it is taught and how it is learned (page 27)
3. The report suggests that the purpose and goals for entrepreneurship education are not clear and that research is needed to be sure we are not teaching the wrong things (See page 11). We suggest that they become aware of the Consortium's contribution via the National Content Standards and the Standards of Practice, available free on the Consortium website.
4. A critical need identified in the Report is expanding the pool of instructors at all levels that have the experience and capacity to provide entrepreneurship education for everyone. (See pages 22-23...Developing Effective Educators)
We could go on and on.....this new Call to Action provides a wealth of support for Entrepreneurship Education as we know it. Please take time to read and use this HUGE OPPORTUNITY to validate our dream!
