1. WHAT IS A JOB?
As entrepreneurship educators you all can probably agree with the following information published in our latest EntrepreNews & Views newsletter...Vol 18-#1 posted on our website at http://www.entre-ed.org/_entre/newsletters.html
A Job is ...
* work that needs to be done, (meaning it has a meaningful purpose)
* that you can do, (meaning that you have the skills, capacity)
* and someone will pay you to do it. (meaning that there is a customer for this work...a source of income to pay you)
Self-Employment - When you think of businesses in the US do you realize the following about the number of people who are working for someone else versus being self-employed?
** According to the latest available US Small Business Administration data, in 2008 there were 27,281,452 businesses in the US.
** Over twenty-one million (21,351,320) of these have only one employee - THEMSELVES - the owner/entrepreneur ...That is 78%
** And in 2010 there were 14,825,000 people UNEMPLOYED
*** Compare this to 153,889,000 in the civilian workforce at the same time.
Check out the DISCUSSION QUESTIONS provided on page 23 of the Vol 18 - #1 newsletter that may show the great value of what you are doing for the future in supporting entrepreneurship education. Also this activity is available alone at http://www.entre-ed.org/_entre/index.htm

6. 2011-2012 - THE BIGGEST YEAR FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION
Everywhere we see people getting on the bandwagon in support of entrepreneurship ...both nationally in the US and globally. For over 30 years we have been building for this chance to make a difference in the lives of American youth and adults....to develop the ability to THINK LIKE AN ENTREPRENEUR (C) .
It has been a long time in growing, but the need today is obvious and demanding. We urge you to join the Consortium for 2011-12, work together with us to share the great ideas and resources already developed and available, and provide a unified message of the importance of "Entrepreneurship Education Everywhere".
Check out details online for our membership year that starts July 1, and send us your form indicating a decision to become a corporate, partner, or ambassador member or a sponsor. http://www.entre-ed.org/_contact/index.htm
The entrepreneurs of tomorrow are in our schools today.....and each student deserves a chance to know it is possible!
Cheers,
Cathy Ashmore, Executive Director
