1. Semester Wrap-Up: Conference Call this Friday, 12/12 @ 11am
We've already begun counting down the days to January 31st, but before everyone darts out for the holidays, we would love to get everyone on the phone together to close out the semester, and hear about all of the amazing work you've been doing since November. We know you're all either swamped with exams or eager to head out for the holidays, so it shouldn't take too long.
Each team can take 5 minutes to update the other groups on what you're up to; in the interest of efficiency, it would be great if you could pick 1-2 people to provide the update (or if you'd prefer that everyone speaks, just be sure to choose topic areas in advance). Include your team's greatest success, as well as the most significant challenge you've encountered thus far, and your immediate action items for January. We'll then give you a run-down on everything we've been up to and the plans for the Accelerator weekend in January.
So again, that's:
WHAT: Conference call, this FRIDAY
Dial-in numbers: 1-800-309-8223
Code: 703-527-7700#
2. Accelerating Change: January 31-February 1
We'll discuss this further during Friday's call, but plans for the weekend are well under way. The major focus of the weekend will be on skill-building workshops and group problem solving, with a theme built around leveraging the existing "peer expertise" available within the cohort. We're also bringing in a number of partners, as well as other students and on-campus social entrepreneurship organizations to provide expert support, and have already gotten some great feedback from several of you about topics you'd like to see. Those currently on the table include pitch development & execution with a focus on story-telling, fundraising, marketing & PR, and social networking.
Have ideas to add or needs to be met? Email Lennon at lflowers@ashoka.org with suggestions.
3. Follow-up: Scott Sherman & Transformative Action
Thanks to all of you who made it out to last Tuesday's event, and a special thank-you to Anke for joining over the phone and sharing her experience launching the course at Cornell. Scott and Shan were rightly awed by the work you all are doing, and the speed at which everything is happening. Within hours of talking with Melissa at UMD and some of the JHU folks, plans were already forged to launch Scott's transformative action course next Fall and during Hopkins' upcoming session in January.
Have ideas for other workshops you'd like to see? Email Lennon.
